Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026

Venato is a reading tracker. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We keep data collection to what the service needs and never sell your data.

Account information

When you create an account we store your username, email address, password (hashed), and any profile details you add (display name, bio, avatar URL, interface and content languages). If you sign in with Google or Discord, we store the provider account id and the email they share.

Reading activity and media metadata

When you use the browser extension or mobile app, Venato records your reading progress (which series and chapter) so your library stays up to date. The extension may also send best-effort metadata about a title (name, cover image URL, description, genres, language) read from the page you are on, to identify the work. This is processed on our own servers; we host no content and only keep metadata and progress.

Usage analytics

We record basic activity events (page or screen views, searches) to understand how the product is used and improve it. IP addresses are stored only as a salted, irreversible hash, never in clear text.

Cookies

On the web we use a session cookie to keep you signed in and a small cookie to remember your language. The extension and mobile app authenticate with a token, not cookies.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your data and do not share it with advertisers. Data is processed by Venato and its own infrastructure providers (hosting, database) acting on our behalf.

Retention

We keep your account data while your account exists. Reading history and activity events are retained to power your stats. Operational logs are kept for a limited period and then deleted.

Your rights

You can view and edit your information in Settings, download a full copy of your data (Settings → Export my data) and permanently delete your account and everything attached to it (Settings → Delete my account) — no email required. If you are in the EU/EEA, the GDPR additionally gives you rights of access, rectification, erasure, and objection.
